My Opinion: The Giffords Shooting

Its now a couple days removed from the shooting in Arizona, and I feel like I’ve been wanting to say something since I first heard the news.

And here’s what I want to say:

Gabriel Zimmerman died. Gabriel was 30 years old and he was Giffords’ director of community outreach. His family will never see him again because he was good at his job.

John Roll died. The 63 year old federal district court judge who leaves behind many friends and colleagues. And a wife, 3 sons and 5 grandchildren.

Dorthy Murray and Phyllis Steck died. They were both 79.

Dorwin Stoddard died. He was 76 years old and a pastor at Mountain Ave. Church of Christ.

Christina Greene died. She was a 9 year old student at Mesa Verde Elementary.

These people’s families don’t give one good Goddamn about Sarah Palin or what she meant by a stupid political website. They don’t care about playing politics, partisan lines or any of this other bullshit that our society can’t seem to get away from.

These families only care that they will never be whole again, at least not like they were this time last week, so let’s please just set aside our campaign junk mail and be together in our support for the lost and the injured.
